LONDON, Aug. 23. Tho "Daily Telegraph’s” jevome correspondent states that the Italian
attack doveljbps (Successfully. The Austrian General Wurm after the first day endeavoured a counter-attack which 'was repulsed in disorder. Meanwhile as the result of later operations on the Carso, the Austrian centre was broken and the whole of ttte enemy’s left wing is menaced. Several lines of enemy trenches eastward of Gorizia have been destroyed. An Austrian deserter divulged that a detachment ofhia compatriots were hidden in a huge cavern. The Italians immediately entered and captured the entire detachment and numerous ma-chine-guns. Several caverns on Mon tes Sahto and San Maroo collapsed wiping out whole battalions. The flighting at Hermada Hill is teirrible. The western counter-posts have been captured with the bayonet and seven thousand additional prisoners, mostly Slavs axe arirving. BATTLE STILL RAGING. ITALIANS FURTHER SUCCESS. LONDON August 23. Italian official: The battle is raging on the whole front. We are over coming the resistance northward of Gorizia and gaining new successes on tho whole lipe of battle. Prisouei* have reached 13,311. We have captured thirty guns and a - great amount - of booty. Our aeroplanes have the mastery of the air and bombed troops and caused conflagrations along the enemy* oomuftiioalfions* Everywhere we repulsed attacks in the Trentino and at Ooraia. The enemy’s bigger attack in the Ledro Valley failed after a lively struggle. P
