THE SOUL MARKET” FRIDAY

The star feature for Friday night is a Metro star, “The Soul Market,” in which Olga Petrova will take the leading role. This beautiful and (clover actress has never yet failed the public, the refinement and finish of her work, combined with that elusive power called magnetism, stamping her efforts as the highest achievement of the picture screen. The play is cleverly worked out, and the acting anil production are of the host. Even as in the slave markets of ancient Rome and Babylon the bodies of women were bought and sold, so in tbe soul markets of Modern New York, London and Paris does the traffic go on. Money, jewels, clothes and luxury arc bid for the bodies and souls of women and girls, and all the laws of CJocl and men are broken in the terrible trade. The final episode of the serial “Greed” will also he screened.

PRINCESS THEATRE

BAZAAR NOW OPEN.

There were busy, bustling times in and about the Princess Theatre this forenoon when preparations were being hastily made for the patriotic Bazaar which opened tliis afternoon. But many willing hands soon made light of what there was to do, and the transformation scene was accomplished in double quick time. When the doors were thrown open to the public there was a surprisingly lino display evidencing what the hard workworkers had done to command success. There are live main stalls. Patrons entering will find the plain sewing stalls on their left, and the fancy-work and linen stall on their right. These are both well-bedecked with useful an., ornamental articles in great profusion, and some snlendid work is on view—

quito an exhibition in itself. The returned soldiers occupy -the third stall with various odds and ends including many beautiful gifts suitable for presents. Then comes the double stall of produce and jumble goods under the care of the Hokitika public school, teachers and scholars, with this is associated the inevitable lucky dip, full of surprise packets. Adjacent to this is the refreshment apartment tas.e fully laid out and excellently served. The remainder of the floor is well-filled with the public who play their part so admirably in the animated scenes inseparable with the events of this character.

The Bazaar and sale of works will been open all the afternoon up to 5.30. o’clock, and again this evening from 7.30. o’clock. To-night the Overseas Orchestra will supply a special programme including several new selections which have been'in rehearsal some time. 'There is sure to be a large attendance to-night. The stock in trade for disposal is sufficient in itself to draw a: crowding gathering of buyers, apart from the particular patriotic object which is to bo benefitted . The ladies who had charge of the arrangements have worked at a minimum ol cost, and the public have been generous in free offering and gifts, s o that with hearty co-operation to-day and to-morrow tihe>. (financial result should bo substantial. - When the bazaar is open to-morrow evening Miss Hancekivell’s pupils from Woodstock will supply a novelty programme of enterntainment, embracing items quite new to the Hokitika public. The pupils have been in practice for some time, and are said to give a fine exposition of their work. This-ad-junct to the programme to-morrow night is sure to be very attractive to the public still anxious to support tho worthy object in view.
