BENZINE AGAIN.
EXPLOSION ON THE BREEZE. (Per Press Association —Copyright) WELLINGTON, This Day. A startling accident occurred on tho steamer Breeze while berthed at King’s wharf yesterday afternoon. About 9,000 cases of benzine had been taken aboard, and the third engineer, W. Ullrich, was making an «•- ainination in the propeller shaft tunnel with a naked light, when apparently the benzine fumes ignited, causing a violent explosion. Ullrich was blown through the tunnel to the engine room, where the crewfound him lying with the hair singed off hia face, and his arms severely burned. He was sent to the hospital. Officials consider it a marvel that tho ship was not blown up. It is surmised that some cases were leaking, and the wonder is that tn* flame of the explosion did not ignite these.
The Breeao left for Dunedin late last Right.
