As the men who are to be seen eaoh day leaning over the rail m the body of the court left the building two policemen barred their egress and demanded to be shown their enrolment certificates ns required by the Military Sorvico Act. In some instances these could not ba produced, and consequently tho offenders will appear in due course before a magistrate. The manager of tho Boatman’s Consoli dated Gold Mines, Ltd., reports as follows for the two week* ended June 30th: “Fiery Shaft has been sunk 18tt, total sunk in the solid 267 ft, total from surface 717 ft. Tlio country passed through is hard layers of sandstone, mixed with slates. Repairs wore made to a part of the shaft where we paaeed through th© reef tract, owing to th* swelling of the ground. Some of the ends had to be replaced for about 4C feet. Some trouble was experienced with tho water from the compressor, That trouble had now been 'overcoim and tho compressor is running well.”
