The case of alleged chloroforming at: v Clarendon Hotel, in. the small hour s of c July sth, was hoard at tho Magistrate’s, ] Court to-day. William Ken n iard aged I c 30 and Robert Irwin Meachlem, 24, were l c charged with intent to facilitate the: j commission of a orinie, tliov attempted i to causo Andrew Rolls Guild and Enid Guild to bo affected by chloroform. j j Guild, a fanner of Tomuka said his ' ( wife awakened him at 5425 a.m. He | noticed a very strong smell, which ha , put down to chloroform. His wife was ( very much excited and partly dotted. He ( felt affected in the lungs. A large ( handkerchief, soaked with a solution, | was lying between the pillows. ( Evidence was given by Mrs Guild and others. John Oakley, a warehouse assistant, stated on July ‘2nd ho sold the accused Kennard, some chloroform. Accused said he was a student. Both accused were committed for trial. Bail was refused.
