, FURTHER PARTICULARS. j Per Press Association. —Copyright « AUCKLAND, July 15 « Particulars regarding the earthquake f and tidal wave in Samoa group on Juno i 25th show there were alarming tremors i extending for a period of two minutes. < Buildings were considerably damaged 1 and residences and stores suffered hut . to a less extent. Many subsidences oc-. 1 curred, one near the principal stow about thirty feet square. _ - The earthquake reached the maximum in the mountains of the interior. Tho ground was agitated like the wavea of the.ocean. Acres of trees wero uprooted and masses of rock were hurled down the mountain sides. The quake was followed by a tidal wave, the full force of which wa ß experienced on the side opposite to Apia. It was severely felt at Alerpota Const, at Lolofaga, S»vaii, Pago Pago. The tide was dead low, but the sea swept, over the beach into the adjacent native houses, carrying everything be_ fort it- The inhabitant's fled terror stricken to the hills. i The Mormon church at Pago Pago was demolished. The wave was almost | spent on reaching Haapai but caused i the loss of several cutters, and flooded shops and dwellings. 1
