MIDNIGHT VISITORS.
AND AN ARREST.

CHRISTCHURCH, July 6
Two men were arrested on suspicion of being concerned in a sensational affair at the Clarendon Hotel early yesterday" morning. A man and his wife who were staying in the hotel were awakened bv the fumes of chloroform.
They started up alarming a mysterious visitor or visitors who decamped leavng a, chloroform soaked handkeichief. The police found a revolver in the lavatory. Ati tho Police Court to-day, William Kenniard and Robert, Irwin Meachlen were charged that at Clarendon Hotel yesterday, they used chloroform with intent to commit a crime. The accused were remanded for a week.
