Thore was a great display of the Stars Rnd Stripes everywhere, in honor of Independence Day. At the American banquet at Savoy Hotel the speeches of Genera? Robertson and Hon A. J. Balfour emphasised the unifying effects upon Allied interests of America’s entry jinto. the war. The American Ambassador, replying said America had entered a holy <nisade for the extension, of liberty nnd he hoped it would result in a perfect and permanent undertaking between all of a steadfast, free Government.

GENER AL PETAIN’S MESSAGE,

Independence Day was mad© a great day for a feto in Paris. American troops marching in the streets were ovationed.
General Petain in a message to the Armies said: —Brothers in who come with no thought of lucre or conquest, hut merely desiring to defend the cause of right and liberty. Let one shout go along tho whole front.— “ Honor to our Sister Republic. Long live United States.”
