Archibald Carlisle, a young barrister, visits the osteite. Severn’s daughter Isobel, meets Carlisle. He falls in love with her. A tragedy occurs in which Dick Hare is accused of shooting lTollyohn, and becomes an outcast. Carlisle has married Isabel and is also administrator of the. estate of Levision’s father and asks him to accept his hospitality during the settlement. As a result Isobel leaves her husband. Barbara Hare tells Carlisle she has always loved him and that Isabel has gone away with Levision. Carlisle divorces Isabel. Isabel fs in a railway road wreck. .She sends Carlisle a (lying —pKea: for forgiveness. Carlisle thinking she ha's succumbed marries Barbara. Isabel recovers and goes to East Lynne and becomes the governess of her own children, Isabel’s son becomes critically ill and when he is dying, in an agony of grief she discloses her identity to him. Carlisle enters the
room t this moment and recognises liis .wife. Later after forgiveness Isabel dies in lijs arms.
