HOKITIKA BOROUGH COUNCIL.
FRIDAY JUNE 29th
The Coucil held the usual fortnightly meeting at 7.30, p.m. Present:— Messrs G. A. Perry - (Mayor), H. M. Coulson G. AA’ood, G. H. Blank, S. J. King and A.E. Stapelton. Apologies were made for the absence of Messrs Thompson and R. King. The minutes of the previous meeting wero read and approved. TNAVARD CORRESPONDENCE.
From Greymouth Bono ugh Council forwarding resolution in connection with th© proposal to ask for the delay of the train leaving Christchurch for Arthur’s Pass from 8.30. a.m. to 9.30. a’.m, and asking that the support of the Council bo given to the suggestion and that they approach tho Government on th© matter:—Received. After discussion it was resolved to approve of th© motion, subject to the carrying of it into effect not affecting the hour of arrival of tne overland train at Hokitika. From Minister of Internal Affairs Wellington in connection with storage of petroleum ©tc. —Reoeived. From Renton and Co. submitting proposal for the erection of struoture for the storage of peroleum and ober oils to be erected in Tancred Street- —Received and referred to sub-committee' to report. From Minister of Internal Affairs! Wellington jn connection with, the burial j of soldiers and the erection of headstones. —Received a .favourable reply to be sent.

( I From Reserves Committee reporting I that tho sections applied for by Mr. 1 Staines be offered on a yearly term, at £3 por annum free' of rates. —Received and adopted. Air. Parkhill referred to tho fact that the Town Band was being rapidly depleted owing to the ballots and asked if the Council would fie prepared t° a'ct as Trustees of the instruments | After discussion it was agreed to acI oept responsibility as Trustees if so do-' : sired by the band members. ; Air. Parkhill referred to the bye-law ; affecting tho backing-in of carts into the kerbing to unload, pointing out that a hardship would be caused by it I being enforced. After discussion it was resolved that • ponding amendment to the regulation tho Inspector be asked not to take action j unless directed by the Council. | AH. Coulson referred to the absence «of representation in Parliament by the AY est Coast and he joined with the ATayor of Greymouth in urging that Westland and Grey be given representa--1 tion in the Legislative Council. He moved that Government be urged to I appoint n. representative for AA’estland j in the Legislative Council. Seconded by Air. King and carried. The Council rose at 8.25.
