SWEARING IN CEREMONY. Per Presß Association. —Copyright WELLINGTON, June 28. The ceremony of swearing- in Lord Liverpool ns the. first Governor-General of New Zealand took place at noon today in front of the Parliamentary Library, in the presence of a large number of members of the Legislature, heads of civil service departments and a concourse of the public. Ilis Excellency accompanied by Lady Liverpool, arrived punctually at iu'»-* and received a Royal Salute, from the Guards of Honor, consisting of three companies of the 27th Reinforcements, Rifle Brigade and senior cadets. His Excellency proceeded to the decorated dias at the steps, supported by Ho n . W. F. Massey and Sir Joseph Ward.

Here the Proclamation appointing Lord Liverpool as Governor-Gfrmrai was read by the Clerk of the Executive Council. Th oaths of office and! allegiance were then administered, by Sir Robert Stout, Chief Justice, the consumauon of the ceremony being signalled by a fanfare of trumpets and Royal salute Mr Massey called for three cheers for the King, which were lustily given, after which li e congratulated his Excellency on the honor conferred on , him by tbe King, which was a consideration of the position taken up by this ! country during the historic struggle. It would place New Zealand on the level of Canada, Australia and India. He , felt confident the right thing had been i done. Sir J. G. Ward added his congratulations, saying many might not regard the change at Us true worth, hut anything which raised ithe status of th© Dominion must do good. The Governor briefly replied. A Royal salute and the National Anthem played by the Trent.ham Band, terminated the proceedings.
