In tho Commons there was a remarkable debate on the proposal to give a vote to soldiers and sailors of nineteen years, who had lought abroad.

Government were at'first unsympathetic, Mr Cave pointing out the franchis© was not a reward for public work or service.

Jfembers strongly pressed the amendment and other members urged the munition workers vver© equally titledIt was pointed] out tho amendment would give a vote to soldiers sorting on Boulogue Quay, while denying it. to those serving the guns at Home.

Siir John Simon opposed any permanent distinction between military and civilian votes.

Service members replied that if a man was good enough to fight b© tv as gooc. enough to vote. Government finally promised .to consider the matter and make a serious effort to secur e a vote, for Ml soldiers and sailors of nineteen, who have the other necessary qualifications.
