CHRISTCHURCH, June 25 The death is announced of Mr. William Hayward, aged 70 years. He was proprietor of the Rink Stables and arrived in New Zoaland in 1862. Ho wa# associated with Canterbury coaching in the early daty.

CHRISTCHURCH. This Day. A petition for six o’clock closing beartig 1,851 signatures, was presented to Mr G. Witty, Member for Riccarton. Ho gave a straight out refusal, on the grounds of hardship to hotel employees. He said he would oppose a referendum on hotel hours, hut would, if necessary, favour absolute prohibition. THE COAL OUTPUT. DUNEDIN, June 25. It is rumoured here that the Hon. A. M. Myers will taek over the control and distribution of coal, throughout New Zealand from Monday next.
