General Haig reports that early this morning the enemy delivered a strong local attack on positions we had captured on the I.4th eastward of Monchv and Preux.

After severe fighting we were compelled to fall back from our advanced posts, established before our main new position, which we still hold o$ Infantry Hill. There wgs reciprocal artillerying northward of the Scarpe, and enemy artillerying near Ypres.
