FRIDAY, JUNE 15th, 1917. (Retort T. Hutchison, Esq., S.AT.) borough by e-la ays. Borough Inspector (Air 'Park) v. C. . E. Linnomaun, a charge of storing an explosive (kerosene) without a license. It was explained that this was the first charge of its sort under the new Borough Bye-Laws.—Fined 5s Same v. J. Lloyd, a charge of riding a cycle on a footpath.—Fined 2s 6d! Same v. ii. Elliot, a similar charge. —Fined 5«. ADJOURNED. AY. Jeffries v. T. Staines (Mr. -Murdoch). Mr Jeffries asked for an adjournin.ent owing to his counsel (All Hannan) being engaged at the Supreme Court, Grey mouth- —Adjourned for two weeks, with costs- £1 Is, -to counsel .for - defendants and one "itness IQs. - . A defended case. The Police charged , a local resident for whom Mr Sellers appeared with being on licenced premises (Post office Hotel) during prohibited hours,, and lie pleaded not guilty. | Constable. Bon'sch .gavel evidence that on Sunday morning, June 3rd, about 11 o’clock, after enquiring for the licensee, saw defendant come, out of the bar. The licensee was also in the bar. Defendant, said ho was arranging business with tlie licensee. The defendant- gave evidence, that •the licensee offered him a' job a few days before, and on the Sunday morning be went into the hotel to accept the offer. Heard a noiso in the bar and knocked at the door. The licensee-opened the door and witness went in and told him he Mould accept the job. Then came out and saw a Tib bad no di/ink. The Bench entered a conviction and inflicted a fine of £l. The Police charged A, Cowie with exposing liquor for sale during prohibited hours at the Post Office Hotel. Air Sellers, for defendant, pleaded guilty.—Filled 10s and costs 7s.
