Sitting at Greymouth
Thursday, May 24. A sitting of the above B ard was held at tbe Courthouse, Greymonth. Fresent— Messrs J. S. Evans S.M t (Chairman), J. D. Millton and E. C. - Studholme. Captain Piikiogton (Military representative) was alio pra sent. In appeals by coalminers those of J. L. Flaherty (marine engineer.), R Hill, EA Tippett, W Auden-on, L Bishop, J BochaDir, C R Crust, 3 Cummingf, H Fi-ber, C A Green, J Hall, A Knowles, J H McDonald. W McToggart, H A JykQailkiu, J P.irk, J Phair, A Pink, E F Riddifotd, G Westhup, and R J Wylde (coal miners) were adjourned sine die. Appeals by Patrick Holland, John W Armstrong, H Duggan, J T Fitzgibbon, W Mahoney and J Rimmer (coal miners) all of whom took part in the second strike were dismissed. P, J Butler employed at State mines for a mouth appealed on grounds of undue hardship.— Adjourned for a month. A. W. Meale, adjourned appeal from a previous sitting, on the grounds that he was not a resident of New Zealand. After le.ig-hy evidence was given, the Court said it was not satisfied with ihe evidence and the appeal was dismissed, appe'laot to go in the June 4raft. A. T. Smith (Waiuta) was given to Jane 20th to report. James F. Wilson (Greymonth.) This appeal was adjourned sine die.

Friday, May 25
The Board rat at the Magistrate’s Court at 10.30 a.m, all members being present. The following appeals wero dealt with:— • John Feensy, B ne Spur (Mr Patk) classed as G.2 ~Dismissed. Robert James Fsrgnsop, Hati Hari (Mr Pa!k)-—Adputned for appearance. Edward August Gibb, Wuiknkups, (Mr Crawford.) —Classed as C.2 — Dismissed. Carl Jensen Hende, Hendea Ferry. Classed as 0.2. No appearance—Dismissed. Patrick Smfield Heslan, Kokatahi, (Mr Wells.) For appellant it was stated be was an undischarged soldier. The Chairman stated if he was a soldier in 1916 ha should uot have been on the register for tbs ballot.— Adjourned till next silting for enquiry. Edward James Mitchell, Stafford, (Mr C:awford.) Gipsied as C. 2. Dismissed. Joseph Patrick McGuigaD, Arahnra. Classed as C.2.-—Dismissed. John J. Rawlings, Ho Ho ‘ Classed S 3 0,2. —Dismissed, ro appearance. Francis Toiley, Three Mile. Classed C.2—Dismissed, no appearance, Edward Rockford, Ruatapu, Classed C 2.—Dismissed, no appearance. Peter Seth Hansen, Henries Ferry. Classed C.2.—Dismissed. George Sutherland, Ross. Classed as C.2—Dismissed, Frederick Baretta, Arahnra, appeal by Neil'Leslie Nicholson (Mr Welli.) Neil Nicholson, manager of mill, gave evidence that Baretta drove the horse trolly at Upper Arahnra mill and was indispensable. He was unable to replace him. There were 27 man employed. Had three trollymen but one had gone to camp and he had been unabh to replaoe him. If this man were taken it would dislocate the working or ihe_mill. The West Coast Timber Company were the owners of the mill. Could not say if Baißtta had enlisted, Deoision—Appeal dismissed, time allowed to end of June, Chriet'an Henry Gibb, Waikukupa, appeal by Edward. Gibb (Mr Ciawford.) • The Chairman aaid that the applicant had gone into camp end as a result af an application by his father had been discharged from camp. Therefore tbe Board had no recommendation to make. Frederick G. Amberger, Koiterang', appeal by Philip Amberger ou his behalf (Mr Park.) —At the last sitting exemption was granted to the end of May. Now the father appealed owing to his own illness for the exemption of his son. Two bous had volunteered, cne being invalided home and the other had broken down at camp and been discharged and was new in a Government pisition in the North Island. Decision—A recommendaiior for further time to be made. Jamas Trembitb, Wultaha. Classed A. Appellant said ha was eiugla t aged ,30. Hail father and two brothers, one being in camp ami the other also in first division. Twosislers, one being a widow and one single. Holds a leasehold section of 200 acras. Witness gavo evidence at some length in connection with tbe working of hie sister’s and his father’s farms. Decision—Adjourned sine die,to be reviewed before the second division is called. Either appellant or bis brother would have to go. Thomas Foster, Ross (Mr Wei 1 ). Classed A.
