THE STRIKE CRISISRailway Services WELLINGTON, April 20. A statement issued by the Railway Department to-night, saysj that through expresses and mail trains _will be restricted to one engine, and ' passengers will not be admitted when a train is full. Provision will be made for passengers to reservo seats not later than half an hour before a train leaves, on payment of a small fee. Seaty will not be reserved for journeys of I©S* than 100 miles. \ Wanganui Resolution WANGANUI, April 22. A big meeting was held on Saturday night to discuss the coal crisis, and a resolution was passed appealing to all classes of the community, particularly organised (Labour, to make national unity our watchword until the enemies of civilisation are subdued. Tho resolution was also read before a big audience at the returned soldiers patriotic entertainment, and carried with onthusiasm , Short of Coal AUCKLAND, April 20. The Tramway Company’s supply of eoal will be exhausted by next Saturday, and unless coal is obtained in the meantime the service will cease.
Minors Criticised ASHBURTON, April 20. A special meeting of tho Ashburton County Council to-day unanimously resolved:—“That the (Council views with great disapproval tho action of the miners in their endeavour to hamper the Government at this critical time of the war, and supports tile Government in any steps it may deem neceysary to take, in restoring order.” PALMERSTON, NORTH, April 20. Ay the Committee of the Manawatu Racing Club understand that to hold the Autumn meeting set down for next Wednesday and Thursday would greatly embarrass tho Railway Department they have decided to indefinitely postpone the meeting. Races Postponed PALMERSTON, NORTH, April 20. The Committee of the Manawatu Trotting Club unanimously decided to abandon the meeting which wa» t« have been hold on Friday next. Gore’s Resolution. Gore, April 21 A largely attended meeting called by the Mayor passed a resolution condemning the ooal miners’ attitude and upholding Government in any steps to end tbs strike.
