Harbor Collision
Wellington, April 18
The steamers Woofcton and Queen of the South collided at the Wellington wharf at about 9 o’clock to night. The Queen of the South was palling oat and the Wootton was to have lsffc for Picton to load stock Wanganui, but it ia not known now when she will get away. The collision carried away the lines, lifting the decking and broke the railing and burst the door of the cook’s room.
Mining Fatality
Thames, April 18
While working in a battery near Thames, William John Ward was caught by the belting and carried to the shaft, where his leg was almost severed from his body. He was taken to the Hospital, where bis leg was amputated. The man did not rally, dying in the afternoon.

When the Supreme Court resumed, Mr Mays, couusel for the Oro vn, referred to yesterday’s incident wherein counsel for defence inferred that two constables, witnesses in the case, had committed perjury in an affiliation case at Auckland. Mr Maya said after oarefal consideration, he world not ask for the jury to be dismissed without a verdict. A very dear explanation could be made in the matter. The Judge said he intended to direct the jury to absolutely disregard the unsupported statement made by
Mr London, counsel for the defence. Mr Mays described the conduct of the defence like the condition of Germany. The case was not fought on the ordinary clean lines, but with poison gas,

Greymouth, April 20 All the Coal Miners’ Unions on the West Coast with the exception of Brunner*, who are not on etrike, have decided by open ballot to continue the strike against the Compulsory Service Act.
The majority in favor is said to bs overwhelming. No figures are available.
