Headquarters, estimated that two million are engaged by the offensive. The extension of the French attack to Champagne illustrates a fresh value to th 9 new tactical method practised by the British at Atrae, namely, the constant enlargement of the front, as the attaok progresses, with great strength on the wings, so that when the objective is reached there is no danger of the salient inviting outflanking.
This method enables better'contact with the troops and facilitates artillerying.
French Successes
Wellington, April 20 The High Commissioner reports London, April 19, at 3.25 p y m; — •
French official—Southwards and south-westwards of St Quentin there was great mutual artillerying, There were patrol encounters on the borders of the high forest of Coucy, between Aisne and Chemiuesdames.
We progressed northwards of Vaiily and Date!.
An enemy attack in the region of Courticon was arrested by machine gun fire, The Germans were mown down hy our fire and waves of assault thrown back, being unable to reach our lines, at Moronveilliers height. Our attacks were successful everywhere.
Prepared for Worst

The New York Times points out the fact that Harden’s warnings passed the German censor shows the German ruling class are prepared for the worst and are preparing the people therefore.
Imperial Conference

It is understood that the greater part of the urgent work of tha Imperial Cabinet Conference will be finished early iu May. In order to get through the task the Conference shortly will bagiu evening sessions. The work of the War Cabinet, which depends on the progress of the war, may entail the attendance of the overseas delegates beyond termination of the Imperial Conference,
