THE BRITISH PREMIER

Christmas Eve at a Welsh Chapel

The Prime Minister on Christmas Eve atteuded the Castle Street (London) Welsh Baptist Chapel, and after the service he addressed the large congregation of his fellow oountrymen and countrywomen. Speaking in Welsh, he said he hud come through the fog from his home in Surrey, for he was determined to spead the last Sunday before Christmas in a Welsh chapel with his brothers and sistersThough it was a high honour to be Prime Minister, it was not altogether an enviable position with its great responsibilities and anxieties. Slowly, with deliberatioD, and giving the impression of deepest sincerity, ha spoke most hopefully and confidently of the result of the war. There had been suffering aod sacrifice. Thera would be more. But the sufferings and sacrifice would not be in vain, We would enter a better world in which the spirit of Christ would more and more prevail. When he was at A'berfc he gaw the figure of the Virgin with the infaut Christ in her arms facing the Germans, and the spirit of Christ was facing them now. In the future there would be more eviderce of the spirit of Christ, and there would be peace on earth and goodwill toward men after the present turmoil had ended. Two of his favourite hymns were sung at his request, the Prime Minister joining heartily in the singing.
