BOWLS.
An extraordinary game of bowls (says the Christchurch “Sun”) was played on the United green between two rink's wdiicli were taking part in the United v. Sumner match. The United team was skipped by John Brackenridge, who had supporting him Wright, Patrick, and Tosswill. The Sumner rink was skipped by Hampton, who hacl with him Williamsou, Alexander, and Maddison. On paper the United is the stronger rink, but Sumner should have been able to put up a good fight. By a most remarkable series of events, or run of bad luck, Sumner never scored a single point throughout the whole game, while United piled up 33 points. Whenever Sumner had a shot, Tosswill or Brackenridge would either take it out or draw a better one, while Hampton’s luck with drives was bad enough to make the mildest bowler desperate. After 21 heads had been played it wa3 decided to play an extra one, to see whether the Sumner rink could show colour. However, United scored again, and the Sumner men were convinced that it was not tlieir day for doing things. It -would be interesting to know if there is another competition game on record in New Zealand in which a rink failed to score a single point.
