FIRE AT WESTPORT.

Westport, April 4 A. large, comparatively new house, owned by Mr W. A. Morris, but at present unoccupied, in Brougham Street, near the borough boundary, was totally destroyed ny fire at two o’clock this morning. The fire had a good hold before the brigade arrived, and the efforts to extinguish it wero nullified by the poor pressure of water, due to a small main, The brigade succeeded in preventing the extension of the fi e to iha adpniug houses owned by W, Pal n r and F. Morgan, Some damage wks done to them in the way of scorching breakage of windows. Mr Morris coma time ego enlisted and wsat into camp, but it is understood h.-s i i now in civilian employment n Wellington. The house was insured, but the sum is not available.
