WESTLAND RECRUITING COMMITTEE.

Representatives of the Westland County Council and interior Borough Councils sat at the County Chambers at 2 30 o’clock as a Recruiting Committee. Mr H. NormaD, County Chairman presided. The Hen Secretary reported that the First D.vision roll for Wsstland had been analysed, and copies for each district sent to ihe local representatives for revision. Siivfral lists bad been returned, and it was resolved to send on any amendments considered necessary to the Recruiting Boird at We lingtcD, Tho meeting then discussed recruiting genera'ly, and the opinion was expressed that the authorities should clean np” the previous ballot’, so that all men called in the earlier ballots should be. accounted for. S'ackers should be dealc with promptly and firmly, aud thirkera in the Government employ Bhonld not ba reengaged if it were found sub equently that they were uot fit for military
service. Raference was made to the employment of men in the Government 101vice in painting and other work which should be suspended during the war so as to free the labor for more neces-
Bftry par i-icer. Ths C 438 was mentioned of the Railway Department refusing the services of an ex guard who had offerad to fili the place of any eligible man required for military service. It was resolved to reoommßad the Recruit bg Board to ask the Government to comb oat all al'gible men in the First Division in the Government employ without delay. In this connection it was pointed out that eligible men had been taken from all walks in Westland, but there still remained eligible men in the Government employ end &n example should be set the country by carefully revising the personnel of all public departments so that it> would be mode plain to the public that the cRt for men was being answered in the first instance by the Government responsible for the ca 1
