DAMAGE BY FLOODS
Appeal from the Thames Wellington, March 21 A deputation of the Thames Borough Council to-day waited on the Acting Prime Minister, the Minister of Public Works and the Minister of Finance, eskmg assistance on account of the damage done by the flood at the Thames last month. Tbe damage is estimated at £IO,OOO. In addition, it was stated damage was done to private property to the amount of £50,000. The Mayor of the Thames said that already £I4OO had bset. Bpent in clearing the water tubles. The borough had an overdraft of £7600. The Ministers expressed sympathy and hoped Cabinet wonld be able to assist. The matter would be considered and tbe deputation advised. The Hon G. W. Rusaell visited Thames this afternoon, and conferred with the Hospital Board regarding flood damage. An estimate submitted showed that a sum of £16,000 would be Deeded to restore the hospital to its former state. Tbs Minister went fully into the matter, and promised favourable consideration.
