ANOTHER PERJURY CHARGE
NINE MONTHS HARD LABOUR., Matua Halieke another witness was als*o brought up for sentence on a charge of perjury to which lie ' had pleaded guilty. The prisoner had sworn that Constable Skinner was out of sight when Pukepuke picked up the gun at Maungapoliatu. When asked if he had antyhing to say the prisoner said he had been eni lightened by the police and that his evidence at Auckland way true. His honour said he had no power to have the idea' of guilty withdrawn. Mr. Mays said that certain influences had been brought to bear upon the prisoner. His Honour said the prisoner spoilt any merit winch may have attached to hip plea of guilty, by coming liere'and swearing an opposite story. The prisoner was sentenced to nine months’ hard labour.
