A Totalisator Case.

Danneyirre, Feb 22

Judgment was reserved in a case heard by Mr S. E. M’Oarfchy, 3.M., in which W. A. Lyon and Henry Redwood, two official. l of the Woodv’lle R.iciug Club, ware charged with permitting investments on the totalisitor at last meeting after the time notified by the club for starting races. The police evidence showed that in six out of eight events cn the fir.tt day money had been acoepted after the notified time of starting, but no allegation of corruption was made.

The defence contended that sufficient notice of the staiting time was given and the stewards reserved the right to alter the starting time, as notified in the race books,

A Motoring Accident-

Wairoa Feb 22

Mr lan Simeon, a candidate for the Hawke’s Bay seat, and Mr O’Donogbue, secretary of the Liberal League met with an accident on the NapierWairoa Road yesterday, between Waikare and Mohaka. Their car driven by K. J. Smith, got into a rut, and the party alighted to extricate it, bnt the steering-gear sent it in the opposite direction and the car went over a bank, making four somersaults, the driver hanging on to the wheel. When the car stopped, Smith was found under it. The engine was still going. Smith is somewhat iniured and is confined to his bed. The party reached Mohaka after walking some miles and later went to Wairoa by car, reaching there at 7.55 p.m. The ToteSYDNEY, Feb. 26.—A regulation under the War Precaution Act prohibits companies from raising new capital to work the totalisator where legalised, without the consent of tho Treasurer.
