A deputation from the Recrniting Committee asked tbe Chief Secretary, in the interests of recrniting, to oloee the stadiauis and racecourses, during the duration of tho war.
He referred Iho deputation to the Federal Government.
A Foolish Speech
Mki.bouune, Fob 20 Mi’ Matthews, a member of the JLtspreeontatives in a speech at Ballarat was loudly applauded when he said oar representatives’ thoughts at the Imperial Conference will be centred on win the war and damn Australia. If the Conference intended to interfere with the domestic affairs of Australia let as remember the tea thrown overboard in Boston Harbour.
