How the Raider Works.
(Received Jan 19, at 9 45 a.m.) New York, Jan 18 There were 170 British and Hind ns,. 54 Frenob, 13 Americans and some other nationalities landed at Pernambuco. A hundred captured Lascars were retained aboard the raider as stokers, releasing Germans for prize crews. There were 441 captured orewa aboard the Parrowdale, the whereabout of which ia a mystery. Some report she foundered and others expect her arrival shortly. The Brazilian and Argentine Governments are investigating a rumor of a secret German base at an uninhabited coastal port. Captain Days, of tha French schooner Nantes, says the raider flew the British flag and ordered him to atop. He then showed the German flag and threatened to Bink her.
Germans boarded and removed tha crew and looted the ship, which was sunk with dynamite.
Big Losses Involved New York, Jan 18 The raider is believed to be the cruiser Yineta. The values of the ships and cargoes reported destroyed and missing are estimated at from dollars.
War risks Britainwarda are unaffected, but rates to River Plate rose to 20%. Further advices from Rio de Janiero state the Hudson Maru was compelled to accompany the raider 7 degrees south latitude, when she waa allowed to go to Pernambuco.
