SCHOOL GARDEN COMPETITION.
The Hutt Central School is to be complimented upon the keen interest shown .in the Home Garden Competition as suggested by the Wellington Education Board. Messrs H.< Poole and A. J. Niclioils of the Hutt Valley. Horticultural Society visited this week some fifty' gardens of the pupils taking part in the competition, as a preliminary to the final judging. The final judging* of seelcted gardens will be made by the Education Board's Instructor of Agriculture. i * These competitions are on the right lines and should be given every encouragement as they instil the art of horticultlre in the youth. The youth of to-dlay is the. horticulturist of tomorrow. The plots visited were rather irregular; a minimum size is essential. Cultivation was goodfi but lateness of planting did not contribute to results. : The exhibitors generally showed a t keen ness which augurs well for next year's competition. \ With the inclusion of otiher schools a very valuable and educational competition in the Hutt Valley would be ensued.
