OPENING DAY.

T>he opening of the third season, of •the Waburn Bowling Club took place on Saturday afternoon. There was a good attendance, of members and visitors from other clubs in the WellingftKHi Oemtre. .The- club's president/ Mr. M. J. Uorwe, welcomed the members aad visitors and spoke of the growing popularity of the, clufb. He said the meatbersihip Was steadily growing and he hoped that still more would join.in the imTOiediaJto future. During the winter months an energetic body of volnntaiy wm-kors had completed the lining of t&e pavilion and had installed electric light. Mr. Bowe also oomplimented the soeiai committeo which had so successfully arranged a series of• social evenings. during- the winter fox the benefit of the club funds. Mrs. Kowo, who was presented with, a bdautif 11. bouquet, was then invited to open the season by pJaying t»3ie first bowl. ;,;■..

That the Woburn Club has an energetic body of lady workers second to none) was amply demonstrated by the appearance of the daintily decorated and well stocked table of delicacies arranged in the pavilion and the hospitality of the willing band of workers was greatly appreciated by all. To say that the scheme of table decorations was carried crat in the club colours, would only a very Imperfect inipresgl--ioh of the artistry displayed. Down tho whole longtJi of the table two bands of gold, maroon and blue paper were stretched, these being the. club eoloiUTS. The centrepiece was a, tall vase of. massive amaryllis, blue iris, tulips and buff-king polyanthus and the lesser vases arranged about.- the table contained the choicest of maroon and gfold tulips, bright blue grape hyacintiha and buff-king polyanthus, all arranged with the utmost taste and disjplaying the colours of tie el\ub. Tt© «oraeT» of the room were decorated with, massive bawls of beautiful azalias aa4 from the coiling were suspended festoons of the bright colouts of the club.

Diuring the afternon the green was visited by the Mayor, Sir Alex. Etoberts and the member for the district and Mrs. Nash. Mr. Nash entertained his hearers' with one of his most iappy and ' appropriate speeches, displaying his intimate knowledge of ..the game, amd speaking of the good fellowship which, was associated with the popular and ancient game.
