SCHOOL FOOTBALL.
The Hutt Valley High „ School First .Fifteen journeyed to Masterton ; last Saturday week to play the first fifteen of the Wairarapa High School. The Hutt team was as follows:—CcCtonville; Collins, Craig (capt), James, Dome, Wallace, Burton, Boswell, Barron, Treiacwan, Jenkins, Dudding, Sargisson, Burgess and Bor&holdt. Turner replaced McConville during tiie game. The game was a very enjoyable one though the football -was not of a very high standard. The heavy ground was paxtly responsible for this, bu<t the ibaill was not slippery and so the backs of both sides had not mucfli excuse for their.bad handling. Had tie heavier arid faster Wairampa backs passed and handled well, the score might easily have (been doubled/ Credit must be given to the stuibborn defence, of the Hutt backs r wiho averaged about a stone less than their, opponents. The. foiwards did excellent work and just about -held their own again&t a strong pack. In the first spell Wairarapa scored two tries and kicked a penalty goal, while Craig put bvex a good penalty kick for Butt. The latter played better football in_the second half, but they could not keep out the 'home side who added another 7 points—a try and a ■drop from.the field—the game ending Wairarapa 16, Hutt 3.
After tie game the visitors were motored to Carterton to see the Hawkes •Bay—Wairarapa match and thoroughly enjoyed the fast open play.
