METHODIST CHURCH ANNIVERSARY.
Last Sunday the Methodist Church celebrated its anniversary and in honor of that occasion, the cihoir, under the baton of Mr. Ernest Dawson, and augmented by Hutt and Wellington singers, ; contributed special music at both morn- ' ing and evening services. In the morni ing the choir rendered "O How Ami- ' aible," by Eaton Faning and Mozart's . "-G-loria," while the evening service • with the exception of a skort sermon, ■ was a1 service of song. Aa a tribute to r the late' Mr. Frank C. Tiunley, the choir ■ sang Sullivan's "Hymn o-f The Home- } land,' ' after which Miss Norah Green I sang that tranquil composition of Men- ■ delsschn "O Rest In The Lord." Next > on the pamphlet was the anthem 3 "Come Let Us Join Our Cheerful j Songs" (Turner), but in deterence to i the recent decease of Mr. Tunley; 7 "Evening and Morning" by Sir Heri bert Gakeley was substituted for that p anthem. "The Heavens are Tellingj" 1 from ' * The Creation by Hadyn, wit-h 3 Mrs Schmidt, Mr. Saunders and Mr. J. ■ Frethoy as soloists, was next rendered s and in that anthem the choir proved - particularly inspiring. Another solo, - the'sublime "King Ever Glorious" t -(.fro-ni Stainer's "Crucifixion") sung - by Mr. Win. Eenshaw, terminated the 3 musical portion'of.--the service. -
On Tuesday night a conversazione and social were held in Wesley Hall at which a most.enjoyable-musical-pro-gramme was contributed by choir members. Tiwo charming part songs "Danny Boy" and "Viking Song" (Eaton Faning) and "Land of Hope and Glory" were sung. Mis Johnson ■and Miss Capes sang very, pleasingly and Mr. Crawford contributed a violin solo.. Supper brought a most enjoyable evening to a close. .
