HUTT VALLEY TRAMPING CLUB.
The following is the annual report to be submitted to the annual meeting of ' t'io above dub, which will be held on I .Monday evening1 next:—' Tho year under review has been most successful in the club 'a existence, and the committee feel justified in venturing tho opinion that t-ho future of the club is n«*\: assured. The solidity and position in which the club now iind.s itself is in no small measure due to the energy arid enthusiasm of the secretary, and the committee desire to place on record tlxeir keen apprecia-tion of his services. . ■ During- the past year if Avas decided to increase tihe number of week-end trips on the" syllabus, and the attendances of members on elulb outings would, indicate that this action- has' been a,ppreeialted. Tihe committee has also endeavoured to extend the field of activity of th club/ bii't is jhampered. to some extent by its desire to keep the cost of outings within the reach of all mmbers. However, new ground has been broken on several U'ips duoing the year and f uvther neT\ r trips are contemplated. In this connection the committee will always welcome suggestions from niom-■beu-s.' The Xnms trip to Kapiti Island and the-Easter trip to Tongariro National Park were both well attended, and the organisation of these trips left nothing to -be desired. • Members are fully aware of the good work done by the Tarar-ua. Tramping Cub in thp development of the Tararua District, and we are pleased to state that we have this year been able to assist financially with the erection of the Kime Memorial Hut and the Tauiierenikau Hut undertaken by the former elu'b. Our members have also assisted the Tararua Olu'b in the cutting of a track from the Akatarawa Road to ■the Dress Circle via Kenata and a branch track to Kapakapanui. The cost of the work was covered by a grant ■made 'by the Wellington Acclimatisation Society. T»ho tihanks of members are duo to all who assisted in the work and, in particular, to Mr. G. B. Wilaon, to whose enthusiasm and organisation the completion of the track is attributable., With' the small accumulated fund now at our. disposal it lhas ibeen suggested .that nicmibcrs be asked to undertake the cutting of a track into the upper reaches of the Otaki Eiver. It is hoped rthat. the coining summer will see the work completed. The design of t-hc club badge was selected during the year, and we think memibors will a-gree that the choice was -a happy one. Our thanks are due to jtho small su'b-committcc wiio drew up tffoe design. , The secretary has arrangements well in hand for a winter trip to tho National Park at the beginning of September. As tho accommodation, is limit ed, members desiring to make the trip are advised to notify t>ho secretarey at once. The cost" for ten days wild be £S. Tho membership of tho elufo now stands at 70, and the financial position is sound. . Enquiries have also been made re a trip to the Hermitage; Mount Cook, between Xmas and New Year. Provided a party of thirty can be arranged, the club will be able,, to obtain special concessions wthich will reduce the cost *.o £11 (Wellington-r-Wellington) with a possibility of a furtAicr concession of 10 per cent. . . Our 'thanks are : , again due to' those property owners who allowed us the right of way across their propety during the -year, and we trust that- members have not- caused them unnecessary inconvenience. For the use of rooms
■wo are # indebted to the following:— Hivtt Borough' Council, Hutt River Board, and the Hutt; Cabinet Go. (per Messrs Green and Lid die). "
