HUTT RIVER BOARD.

The regular meeting of the Hutt River Board was held on Tuesday; evening. There were present Mr. F. S. HJetwei' (chairman), and Messrs J. Mitchell! and C. Gostelow. The Lower Htutt Borough Council wrote advising the change of street tames in the borough. The Hutt Valley Development Co. made application to remove shingle f rom the bed of tjhe river. The application was held over pending v report from the engineer. A fetter was received from the Moera Ratepayers' League complaining o£ the removal of soil from, the banks of the Awamutu Creek through, the Hutt Park and stating t>hat such action was contributory to flooding in -the diatriet. The matter was referred to tl» Board's engineer for report. In reply to the Board's application that the 800-ugh Council should maintain the storm, water drains flowing into the Hutt River tiie borough engineer wrote pointing out that in the opurion of the Works Committee ' 'The function of the tiver is to ■ drain the oonntry through whie>h it flows and that it would -appear reasonable that no objection should be Taiaed to draixis discharging into the river, providing the safety of the stop bank is not jeopardised. All Council's drains so discharging are inspected and maintained by borough employees and my committee, therefore, objects to the proposed charge by the River Board for this purpose. The Chairman reported that 50 to 60 thousand willows had been planted this season in order to protect the banks. The engineer reported that certain householders were cutting tracks in the stop bank, endangering its •safety.. It was decided to serve notices on the offenders. It was agreed to grant the application of the Hutt Golf Club for the removal of sand subject to. royalty charges'. ;
