A most enjoyable afternoon was spent on Saturday, 31st May, at "Baraby," ConnoHy Street, when Mrs. JoHands gave a -Kitchen /Tea in ihonoiir of Miss Gladys Gashman whose niarria.'ge takes, place shortly. On Thursday nigibt a number of young people spent a most enjoyable evening ,at the Scouto' Hall as the quests of Miss M. Bartley, the occasion being a kitchen tea and the guest ofTionour —Miss Wiekhaan, whose marriagw takes place vtyry shortly. Miss BartOey; thanked her guests for -their generous gifts, after which, the . goeaty of the evening thanked her hostess for the delightful party and also thanked. Mrs S. Peek was recently hostess at a most delightful and successful party the honoured guest being Miss Alsop, who is shortly to be married. About' forty guests were present, each of whom contributed a gift for t>he kitchen of the new home.- To Miss Alsop fell the pleasant task of opening the parcels, while; her fiance, Mr. H[uiLt.Sx*,;' read the'; names and good wishes enclosed and' heartily . tianked everyone for their kind, gifts and also thanked their host and hostess fox the very joMy evening they had all spent. Mr. Peck, in reply, I said what a pleasure it was to him and j Mrs Peek to entertain their friends and wished the guests of the evening every happiness. The rooms were ■ gay with iceland poppies and maiden-hair fern, and a very dainty supper was set in the dining-room. There . were numerous competitions during the evening', while those who . felt in&lined for cards- repaired to the ■".billiard-room, the young folk having a -most jolly time dancing in thp drawing-room and playing games. Mars R. P. Smith recently gave Miss Louisa Latimer a kitchen t£a on the occasion of her approaching marriage. Tho room was prettily decorated1- with bronze-tinted and 'cream cjhrysanthemums. The hostess received her guests wearing a mauve satin beaute frock 'Wiih insets of grey lace. Miss Lati,mer woro a frock of, patterned velvet with orange erepe-de-ehene facings, and was th recipient of many useful gifts. The evening was passed in games and competitions; also a novelty number in the form of a mock marriage was given by Messrs F. Ansell, A/ Clark, D. Jenkins and W. Mullins.
