The opening of the Lower Hutt Chess Club took place in the- Wesleyam. Sunday School-room on Monday nighty and proved to be a most Siueeessful gather'i.ng* -' '. ' - .■■.-.:■. - . ■..■/"'■.. Over thirty players asseTntoled, and tic "hall was well .filled. Wellington players ishawtid their interest and quite . a contingent, of them came put to see; the now' cub launched. The President of the Lower Hutt Cluib welcomed'the visitors, and '-Unas welcome was res-pond- ; .' ed to by Mr. F. J.Brob'ker, CJhaipnan o.f the jSTgaio Chess QJub, and also the/ Wellington Gliess League, and by. Mi-. F. K. Keilin sg, seeretaix of tie'Welling-' ton Ohess Club. -These en eonplimented the Hutt:,players on ■having such a lai'ge ga-thering for their openihw night, and promised V t>iev support [■and interest of city players. The ! iiawes ~pf a numlbei' of ;new members were handed in, and the Club will have its first general meeting on Monday next-, when details concerning the management of th eehib will bo dealth wifh.
