A KITCHEN TEA.
A most enjoyable evening was spent at the home of Mts MacWhannell, of Berhampore, on Saturday, when Miss Barber, of the Hutt, whose "marriage (takes place shortly, was the gmest of Humour. Clarionet and saxophone items were much appreciated, while the Misses Weldon and Cooper and Mr. Jjinley also contributed greatly to tihe enjoyment of the evening. The bride-to-be was the recipient of a shower ■bouquet of most artistic design, the
bouquet of "gold" wired pegs, and toasting fork, egg slice and bottleopener streamers being most effective. The other gifts comprised almost every kitchen requisite, and after the fun of opening the gifts, dancing and competitions rwibiled away n vciy jolly
evening.
Mrs MacWhannell received Ivc-r guests wearing black eelanese' do chine, while the guesft of the evening was in blue erepe-de-oMne. Miss P- MacWhanneOl wore floral velvet, her sister, Miss P. MacWhannell wearing green fleur-de-c!hinel Others present were Mcsdaines 'Woldon, in brown silk with floral trim'mirig, W. Weldon, flame beaded goorgett'c, Goary, white, satin and •georgette, and Misses J. Murdocks, blue
satin, E. Murdoeks, bl-ack georgette, M: Weldon, blue rayon and radium lace -and E. Cooper, black taffeta.
LADIES' MINIATURE RIFLE CLTJB 1 The official opening of the Lower Butt Ladies' Miniature Rifle "Club took place on May 6th, at the Range, Rivorbank" Street. There was an excellent attendance of both'sexes, as the.ladies invited the Lower Huftt men's team to. compete witih them. The;two captains of the .respective teams—Mrs Dorikin and Mr. Goldfinch. —,eh.ose their cohorts, ■tho-.result""being- a win far the gentlemen. The winners of the todies' prize was Mrs.Savage, anj| of the men's, Mr Goldfinch. Cards were also, played by those w2io felt so disposed. During the evening, Miss Siunro'e presented the captain (Mrs Donkin) with a bouquet of pretoty autumn flowers,, and as the ladies1 felt that they would, also like td do something for Mr. Goldfinch, Mass P. Lawrence presented him with an artistically arranged bouquet of vegetables! During the evening Mr. Goldfinch spoke most eulogistically of the: ladies' shooting, and Mr. O. Ching presented the club with a silver brooch to be competed for fortnightly. "A delightful -supper terminated a most enjoyable evening which, the cluto hopes, will bo a forerunner to the many entertainments which are to be hold through the winter, and to this end a most hearty invitation is extended to any Hutt ladies who would care to Join tlhe club.
