The many friends of. Sister L. E. Smith, late matron of Macarthy Hospital,''Belniont, will regret to leam\ of her death at ChristeiHircii' on ISth ApriL Sister Smith was the eldest daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. A. NichoUs, of Akaroa, and received her training ttt tieXhristchuTcih Hospital. On completing her training she married, and lived for several years at Westport.. Aifter the dearth of her husband she again took up nursing as matron of the Denniaton Hospital which, position she filled foor nine yeai's. She was relieving matron at the Cambridge Sanatorium and "later joined the staff" of the Wellington H6s-! pital as maftron of th-e Macartihy Con- 1 valescent Home for. nurses and children at.
