HELIUM GETTING CHEAPER.
. Before tie War helium was a curiosity of the scientists, manufactured only iit small quantities in the laboratories. Its pricel then was £400 a cubic foot.
With the coming of the^irs'hip helium
assumed an importance whieii it had not had before, ..and there came a great demand for this non-inflammable gag. The United. States Government established a helium extraction plant at Sonei, in Texas, and the gas ia now being pro- • duqed at the extraordinary law, price of a penny aVeubie foot. It is doubtful if anything has ever been cheapened so amazingly and so -Bapidly as helium.
Of course, this success has been the result of research by the chemists, and there is a possibility of the cost being .still further reduced in America, *as
new stores of helium of great richness have been discovered in Colorado and 'Utah.
Unfortunately for other nations, hel-r ium is not available in large quantities or at,a .cheap price outside the United States. ■■■■.-/.;..■' '•■■■■- • ■ ■• • , -•
