"BY THE WAY."
THE NEWEST VO£UE.
The following dialogue was overheard a few days ago by a teacher*'at one of Wellington's private schools. The participants—two small girls. Seehe—Outside a window. '
-First little girl: "I've lost.my handkerchief, have you* seen it?"
Second little girl: "No, I haven't." First little girl: "Never mind, I'll use my dress!"
An -onlookeT at the outbreak of fire at Main Hutt School the other evening was amused to hear: "Ooh, Mum, no school t-moTTowI" from one w&ose experience of "school" had surely been of a limited nature! Then, as the outbreak showed signs of becoming something more serious, that onlooker was dumbfounded to «hear a rousing cheer, and looking in the direction, from whence it emanated, a group of small boys was to be seen viewing proceedings with the 'Utmost satisfaction. But that satisfaction was to be of a shortlived nature, for when the onlooker again passed that way some twenty minutes v later, a disappointed, disconsolate procession was seen wending its way homewards ,with every prospect of " school "on the morrow!
