MINIATURE RIFLE SHOOTING

The official opening of the Petone Central Miniature Rifle Club took glace on the Empire range on Wednesday, 9th April, when a large representation of the three clubs invited namely, Hutt Valley Ladies', Petone Ladies' and) Workr ing Men's Club rifle clubs, together with friends, and vice-presidents were present. Mr Frost, the club president, on be-half ( of Mr D. McKenzie (Mayor), who was, unavoidably absent, extended a hearty welcome to all present, to the opening of the 1930 season, and to celebrate the

third anniversary of the club, und.er the name of Petdne Central. Three, years ago the club hadi a membership of fifteen, and to date the), roll totals 45, which ishows the rapid progress, the club is making. Mr. Frost in wishing everyone a pleasant time, declared the season open.

The captain and vice-captain choose teams from the members of the various clubs present and judgiag from the very fine performance. put up by all shootists present, it points to a very keen fight for honours in the matches to come.

The captain's team gained the victory by the small margin of four points.

During the progress of the shooting cards were indulged in and a very fine programme of gramophone records, kindly lent by Mr Eaton, the club's captain, helped, to make_the evening one not to be quickly forgotten. All present sat down to a very fine supper provided by the club members, of which the outstanding feature was a beautiful birthday cake, the working of one of the very keen supporters, and vice-presidents, Mr "Williams, a member of the R.M.S. Corinthic. The evening was brotrght to a close with three cheers for the Petone Central Club.
