HUTT , y.
WELLINGTON.
This game was concluded under ideal conditions and on a wicket which, favoured the batsmen. Wit!h a first innings deficit of 28 runs, the local team set out to force the pace and try to. secure an outright win. The batsmen 'Koiyrevei^ soon realised that bowsers Wire can command a good length, and pitch the baß on the wicket can not .tier treated otherwise than with respect. Unquestionably Blundell is a class iiowltft and only two of the Hutt batsmen —Birch and Warnes—appeared to Tje at e3l confident when facing (his deliveries, MicGirr and "Watson each had & slam at good length balls, and as a result departed, clean' bowled. Bircth. was bowled by a beautiful ball which just lifted the off bail-. Warnes was brilliantly caugkt on the leg side, off the same ibowler and Boss's went in the slips through attempting to. drivel a late "swinger." ~ Blundell's figures were five for 46 which gave him the fine average of 10 wickets for 90 runs for the mate&. Wellington required 68 fox an. eight point win. Airey and Hollings &ad little trouble in securing the necessary runs, without losing a wicket. (Wellington thus won the metch and the Senior Championship, an honour which tibey thorougly deserve. ; Following are the scores :— ■■■■■-,■ . HUTT, ... Mrst innings .... 96 Second Innings. W. TTOTES. 7" *■■■'": ~~^~~^-' - Trlie form .of the Senior "batsmen was too bad to foe true. Despite the splendid bowling of Blundell, the lo'eal bats- , men should have got more runs. Birch and Warnes showed that the bowling could be played, and scored off. Warn'es in particular was scoring freely off the ex-Cambridge player, when th.c was unfortunate enough to fall to a briHiant one-handed catch by Goodwin. Under ordinary circumstances the stroke would have realised lour runs. and Watson'adopted the wrong tactics when matters were not going too well for their side. ! • The Tthird A's can be counted unfortunate in not winning the Championshipj They have met the winners —Kilbirnie A-^-on three occasions, inflicting heavy defeats in the first two matches arid shared a draw in-the final
when matters were decidedly in their favour. Langford has been a tower of strength to this team and has exceptionally fine averages both- in batting and bowling.
"■■ D. Matthews came to light with a good century "for-the Junior B's. This player .showed much promise a couple of seasons ago and appears to be again getting into form.
A pleasing feature of the season's activities has been the consistent attendance of the Club's vice-presidents. In this connection it is good to see Mr. Barnsiraw about again after a serious illness. 1 This gentleman takes a very "keen interest in all the teams.-
