A RECEPTION.

Lady Roberts gave a most delightful party on Friday afternoon in honour of Miss Kerr. The guest of the afternoon and her mother are recent arrivals from Scotland, and he* marriage to Mr E. A. M. McEwan takes place very, shortly. The guests, numbering about forty, included many Wellington friends

Lady Roberts received her guests wearing a chamiing frock of flowered crepe-de-chine, with a navy blue Bangkok hat, while the guests of -honour wore a smart brown tweed costume, her hat being of-: brown - felt. - . Mrs* Kerr's frock was of wine erepe-de-ehine with coat and hat to tone, while Mrs McEwan wore a tailored black crepe-de:'chine fi'ock, -her hat being of fawn felt. Mrs. Dawson, Lady Robert's niece, wore a dainty floweTed chiffon f-rock, with a blue felt hat.

Among ... the guests were Mesdames Hansell, Treadwell, D. A. Ewen, Fenwick Allan Johnston D. J. Johnston and the Misses Preedie-, M. Macassey, Hansell (2), J. and B. Jervis and J, Riddiford.

The beautiful grounds of Sir Alexander and Lady Roberta's home\pTesented a lovely prospect and the -prevailing delightful weather made it possible for the young people to play tennis to theiv hearts' content,. while manw of the older guests wandered round the garden, enjoying gay beds of floweT3, shady walks and beautiful old treesJ

A dainty afternoon tea was served in the dra-wing room and altoget&er the party proved a most enjoyable and happy function.
