HUTT RIVER BOARD.

The regular meeting of the Hufct Biver Board was held last week. There were present Mr. Fi S. Hewer (chairman), and Messrs G. A. Chapman, H. E. Leig&ton, C. Gostelow, and J, Mitchell.

It was agreed to affix the seal of the Board to an agreement with Messrs Bogn&da, Adams and Blyth for permission to operate a shingle plant in th«

river bed.

A petition was presented by W. Oandji signed by a number of residents in Waiwetu. The petition set out that the quantity of weed growing in tho water-way was on the increase, largely on account of the removal of willows from the banks, and further asked that some mechanical means be employed to remove the mud from the creek.

It was decided to ask the engineer to report on the advisability of procur-

ing a suction dredge for "the purpose.

Mr. Gostelow put forward the suggestion that a suction plant might be used to advantage on the Hutt River, in order to make the stretch t)f waterway from tke sea to the town bridge available for boating. He pointed on*, that if more of the timber was cleaTeJ from the bed of the river, it might become a popular boating river.

A letter was received from H-, GH«n-

nie of - Malone Road, .drawing attention to the weed obstruction in the Waiwetu' Creek in view of the fact that a septic tank was discharging into the creek at that point and causing a nuisance.

It was decided to bring the matter under the notice of the Borough Council.

The matter of clearing the creek at Wyndrum Estate was referred to the ■engineer for further report.

An application was received from tiLe x. proprietors of King George Theatre for permission to erect advertisement hoarding atr western approach to the Hutt Bridge. It was decided to appoint a small committee to investigate and to report to future meeting. "
