LOWER HUTT FREE KINDERGARTEN.

The half-yearly meeting of the Lower Hutt Free Kindergarten Association was held on Thursday, Mareih. 20th with a good attendance. Mr. W. Nash, M.P, one of the vice-presidents, was present, and expressed his willingness to (help the Association at any time and in any way he was able. An apology was received from Hon. Mr Tavener.

The balance sheet showed a satisfactory position, but a 'greater effort must be saade. during the next half year if the work is to be carried on. The treasurer announced .that only three members (all ladies) had paid their annual subscription and Sloped that the outstanding ones would be handed in at once. It was resolved to make a systematic canvas of -the JHutt to obtain annual

subscribers. It is hoped that all whoare interested in tflie welfare of children will become members of the Association by paying 2/6.

A ~vote 6dE .. sympathy was passed to Miss Riley (principal) on her illness ■w&ich necessitated an operation, and all hope for a speedy recovery. -

Special thanks are also due to tho*» ladies who came forward with offers of "help, some giving their service* gratis every day. ~ ;

The ladies held a Cake and Product I>ay on Friday, March 21st w2tfen •, substantial sum of., money was raised. Almosh every mother in the district contributed and also bought. As this was confined entirely to the McxeTa district, it shows what a wonderful r comr munity spirit is present if properly en-

couijaged. Mesdames: Baker and' Hotton and tiieir willing band of workers are to be heartily congratulated on th* success of their effort.
