MOTHER'S CHAIR APPEAL.

ADDRESS, AT RAILWAY WORK-

SHOPS.

On Tupesday last Mrs Joyce, the j Waiwhetu convenor for the collection of fun<l& on behalf Of the Obstetrical 'Society, addressed the men who were assembled in tiie dining. room of the Railway. Workshops on the meaning of the fund, stressing the point that i<t 4 was by no means an appeal to women only, or in the case of men, to. married men only. The young single.men of to-day were the fathers of the future generation, and t&ey would be the ones who will benefit directly by the setting up of this chair. In the young men's charge would be the welfare of two lives on one or several occasions, and while the average man did all that &c" possibly could at this time for his wife, whenajfit came to the actual time of his wife/s ordeal, he was helpless. Skill beyokd all t>hat he or his best friend could do was needed if his future home life wes to reach the happy state, three being better company than two. Here is now the opportunity to help, by supscribing to the fund, to' assure tßiat all the benefits to be derived from a greater knowledge of difficult child-birth, would be available in his home, fcflf sister's, or in the case of the old men, their married daughters.

-The address was well received, and a salic of coupons attempted, but the time was far too short, so that only one of the workshops could be canvassed, resulting in the sale of two pounds worth, and a promise of a further t&ree n«xt pay day.

Mrs Jby«e wishes to express* thanks

to the management for allowing her to address the men, and to the men themselves for their courtesy, intelligent in.trest and (helpful questions and -suggestions—they were gentlemen in the truest sense of the word.
