FAREWELL TO MRS CATHRO.

'A most enjoyable evening was spent on Wednesday, March sth, when the members of the Lower Hutt Sunshine Club met at the residence of Mr and Mrs G. Winter/ Totara Crescent, to bid Mbon voyage" to one of their members, Mrs C. Cathro, who left yesterday for a tour of England and Scotland. During the evening items were contributed }-y Mesdames Baxter, Cathro, Winter and Tait and Messrs Wood and Fordie. Aa interesting competition, was also aeld and was won by Mrs Tait and Mr. Cathro.

A presentation to Mts Cathro was made on behalf of the clut) by the secretary, Mrs Tait, rwho. wished the departing guest bon voyage and a safe return. The opportunity was also taken by Mrs Clark (.president) to -present Mr. Fordie. with, a small-gift. A dainty; supper was served' by club members and .t>he function was brqught to a close with the singing of "Auld Lang

Syne."

On the occasion of her early: departure for a trip to^ the Old Cpuntry, Mrs G. CathTO- was the guest of honouT at a farewell "surprise party" held at the residence of Mr and' Mrs Oharles, "Troon," Kings Eoad, on Saturday last. The party was chiefly representative of the social committee of the Lower Hutt Association Football Cluib (of which Mrs Cathro is a member), but several other friends of Mr and Mrs Cathro augmented the gathering, those present numbering over thvrty. Several happy hours were spent by ail in games,, music and dancing.. Mesdames Potts and McLellan, Miss N. Smith, and Mr Charles contributed solos, Miss L. Joselin delighted all with, elocutionary items> while Mr Sam Charles gave several pleasingf selections on the saxophone.

During the course of the -evening, Mr. J.D. Adam, chairman of the Association Football Club, in a few recmarks, expressed the pleasure all had in surprising Mrs Cathro that evening and called on Mrs J. Batcihelor, social secretary, to make a presentation.

Mrs Batchelor, in asking Jbfrs Cathro to accept a leather attache WTiting-case as a parting gift from those present, expressed the sentiments of the company in a few lines thus: — TO. MRS CATHRO. '' We 'have come to-night to say to you, Not a gloomy farewell but a fond adieu, Not a sad, sad parting but a oheery good-bye" - • * One you'll recall with never a sigh. But remember it always as night of Joy^ When woman was girl and man was And each was merry as merry could be; A happy memory to take o'er the sea. Something to think of when far away, Something to Tefturn to again some day, For just as we wish you Bon. Voyago to-night We shall welcome "you back with equal delight. And in handing to you this gift from us, I would say that we are most »ha.ppy thus, To ask you to carry away to deez I ' Home, '■ ■ To Bonnie. Scotland or where-er you may roam, This token of love-^-f riendship's sign— For we are sure, as you write each line, You will think of all who are here this nig>ht And we'll be ever in mind, though out Vof sight;" - ' In a further appropriate few lines Mrs Batchelor also addressed Mr. Cathi'6, referring to the quiet and \,n-. ostentatious, yet nevertheless very effective, manner in which the had worked for the benefit of ,the Hutt Soccer Club during the past . few years, expressing the committee's appreciation thereof and assuring him that in honouring Mrs Cathro that night those present desired to equally honour him.

Following the singing of "For 1 they are jolly good fellows," Mr Charles and Mrs Cathro, spoke in reply, and then with the singing of "Will ye no come back again," and "Auld tang Syne" and with many a >hearty handshake and expression of best wishes to Mrs C&thrb there concluded a truly happy evening—a bright memory indeed for the departing gmest.
