The following report was presented:— '■
Exemption of Ranoiwick Road (South of Park Road) .--—Your Committee lias to report .baring received advice from the Borough Solicitor .-.. iv connection with the Hutt Park Conrmitte'e *s application for-exemption from widening of the above street, and has to recbirimend that the Committee be advised, that . this Council would not object to the jssue of a toerriiit for'the erection of a building 33ft; from the centre of the street and' at; ihfi same time it be asked to undertake^ to '. dedicate the necessary land along its frontage for widening if and when required by this Council. In conimuittcating with the Hutt Park Committee; the Town Clerk has been instructed to ask for a reply to Council's letter of the 26th March last, regarding the widening on the north side of Park Road..

the request.
Petition from Knight Road and Ba*rraud Street Residents.—lt was reported to. your Committee that a petition had been received from residents of Knights rood and Barraud street complaining of a nbiso emanating from certain business premises in the vicinity on Sundays, and asking that Council take steps to have &&'zraisance abated. The Boiough Solicitor was consulted on the matter and he
culvifsecL that he knew of no By-l»aw appHoable to complaints of the above char€Wp»r and feiat if the people signing the petition suffer any inconvenience arising from noise or smoke then they have . a «feil remedy which in. no way justifies 'intervention by the Council. The petifioners liave been a,clivised accordingly «nd at the same time the owner of the premises has been advisd of the receipt of the petition and suggesting that he take such steps as are necessary to prevent recurrence of the matters complained of. Your Committee has accorded approval to the reply sent -to >the Petitioners. •. •
Fire Brigade Matters. —rTlie Fire Brig&fle reports for the two montMy periocu lending January 9th'that it has attended three fires in the period^ one at Day's Bay, one at Main Street and another in Heath Street. JCn the first case two houses had been destroyed- on the «fi our engine, but a _ goods save yeas effected in the case of a third house which %aa well alight, and the saving of t]bia fcouge also-removed the danger from otters in the immediate vicinity. The
damage at the other two fires was, to all intents, negligible. All street alarms, house bells and motor appliances are in good oider and the attendance at all musters continues to be good.
