STREET NAMES.
A very practical suggestion was made t>y some of the members at the last meeting of the Lower Hutt Chamber of Commerce when considering the Mayor's suggestion to change the name of the main street, Hutt Road, etc.
The suggestion put forward was that there are a number of thoroughfares in the borough that; cause unnecessary confusion owing to the fact that they contain between their extremities, two or even three names. Some of the most glaring examples that occur to us are Woburn Eaad, Ludlam Crescent and Randwick Road. Again Laings Road, Bellevue Crescent and Bellevue Road. The name of Hautana Square is confusing, owing to the fact that a square .Joes not exist and it would be much more intellegable if Hautana Street was made to apply for the entire length from Bellevue Road to Knights Road. How many residents, arc t&ere who •i?ould tell where. Kings Road ends and Heke Street commences? Again we have Queens Road occupying what should be Bunny Street. Another aspect is the, duplication of names in both the Hutt and Petone which cause confusion. A few of—these are Cuba -Street, Fitj&hwbert. "Street, Herbert Street and many others. Doubtless these anomolies have crept in du-ring the growth- of the borough when the «/leai dividing line was removed, as ■was instanced when Bloomfield Crescent was connected with Bellevue Road., We -hope that when the Council is considering the change of name; for the main highways it will see fit to go^ a little further and eorreet the anomolies that exist in the direction we .have in-
.'Heated.
