The Timaru Borough Council adjourned its business in order to do "honour^ to the General Manager.. During the temporary absence of tke Mayor, the Deputy Mayor (Or. T. W. Satterthwaite) occupied the chair. It was to be regretted, he said, that Mr

Hollands was leaving the employ cf the Council, but all were pleased to know tiiat he was bettering himself. The Deputy-Mayor then handed a testimonial which had been signed by the Mayor and Councillors, and, in doings so ; said that it was with feeling of gratification mingled wit>lr regret, that they took farewell of him. It was gratifying to know that din-ing his short stay in Timaru he had made si:eh a success of his positiori, arid now the was going to a more lucrative/one. v Mr Hollands had done all that was ask"ecT( of him —and more He had : exceeded^ every expectation, and the Municipal Electricity Department had prospered" exceedingly under his very ..capable administration, (Applause).

The Major wiio had just ■'returned from another function, said that Mr. Hollands was the' one person who \\ as leaving the Council's employ who had left the Electricity Department en a sound footing. He had left them plant worth £100,000 and it. was in perfect running order. The- Mayor also wished Mr. .and Mrs Hollands and family the best of success and happiness, and expressed the hope that some day "they would return to/Timaru. (Applause). .»

In reply Mr Hollands thanked the Council for the testimonial, and for the kindly words spoken in regard to. Mrs Hollands arid the family He traced the growth which the Department had made since he took charge three years ago, and paid_ tribute to the loyalty of the staff. "T&e staff to-day is the same as when-1 took over.three years ago," he said amidst applause. Mr Hollands also made mention of the Mayors, Councils, and chairmen of the Committee under whom-he" had servo 1, and said that he had never had a moment's worry. He had thoroughly enjoyed his'stay in Timaru.
